What Determines Cost?

Solar cost varies because every home or business is different. The main factors are:

How much power you use daily (lights, fridge, TV, pumps, business machines etc.)

How much of that power you want solar to cover – 100% (full independence) – 70–80% (most cost‑effective for homes) – Backup only

Battery Type & Size – Lithium batteries now very cost effective and offer a longer lifespan compared to lead-acid batteries. Note: It’s solar batteries, not car batteries!

Quality of Equipment & Installation – Good brands can last 10–25 years if properly installed and maintained – Poor systems fail early and cost more long‑term

Method 1 — Your Electricity Bill

If your monthly bill is around KES 5,000, your daily consumption is roughly 5–7 units (kWh). If your bill is KES 12,000, your daily usage is typically 12–14 units (kWh)
